About Us
Literacy Volunteers of America-Prince
William, Inc. was founded in 1991 by local librarian Dona
Swanson. Our mission is to teach adults to read. LVA-PW is
an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a nationwide
organization of over 1,200 member programs. We take volunteers from
the community, train them to be tutors and then match them
with adults with low level literacy skills. LVA-PW provides
the professional training, materials, and support that enable
our volunteers to be effective tutors. All services to the
student are free.
